For my presentation, I presented my ideas, starting points, tests
and my artist research up to now.
I firstly talked about my starting point, I talked about my personal
blog and how that has grew over the year I’ve been writing it. I went on to
talk about how I’ve enjoyed taking the product pictures for my posts, they are
the first thing people see, so I want them to be the best they can be. I made
the images a big priority in my blog writing for that reason.
I then spoke about how this links back to me dissertation title, ‘How
do online blogs and YouTube videos influence consumerism within the digital
age?’ I am talking about how the Internet has evolved our shopping habits, and
how its effected our consumerism by watching and reading these videos and blogs.
I talked about how blogging has led people on to big opportunities, such things
as book deals, TV appearance’s and makeup and beauty lines in large stores such
as Superdrug and feelunique.com.
Next I showed my test pictures, images I have taken at home with
natural lighting of products I have. I like to show the product name clearly in
each picture, and make sure I show all the packaging. I talked about how I like
to use natural lighting to give a more ‘home made’ look, and a less
professional and stage feel to the images.
I also talked about the video test I had done, I wanted to create a
beauty video to get myself used to talking to the camera. This was the second
video I have done and have plans for more in the future to get more confident.
I chose to talk about skin care, something I am interested in and know a lot
about. I wanted to be able to talk openly and comfortably in front of the
camera, and I hope to improve with each one I shoot.
I spoke about my next steps, including shooting in the studio,
learning new skills to improve my still life/product photography, looking at
other brands and getting more comfortable in front of the camera by filming
more videos.
I finished the presentation by talking about the two of the artists
I have looked at, Barbara Kruger and Keith Yahrling. Both look at the ideas of consumerism,
something I am using as a theme.
After the presentation I received feedback about my idea, and some
artist to look at to enhance my research. I feel I got across my ideas well,
and felt it was beneficial to talk openly with my tutors about what I aim to
do.
