'The products and spaces I depict have the potential to reveal the desires of individuals in our society and illustrate the unbalanced relationship of a materialistic culture.' - Yahrling
Keith Yahrling was born in 985 in Camden, NJ, currently works and resides in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He created a project called American Consumerism. He wanted to show the idea in his images that the large corporations in America has gained a large amount of wealth, power and influence on the shopping experience in their stores. He wanted to show how that the big stores in America had made their primary concern just about making profit margins. He felt that they had over shadowed the customers themselves.
He talkes about how he feels that customers are being led to believe they are buying into a lot more than just the physical object. He wants to show that we all have the same shopping habits, and some can get drawn into the big corporations selling techniques. I want to use his images as research into the idea of shopping habits, and how we all copy each other in the way we spend. Especially recently during Christmas the amount of money spent over the few weeks leading up to the big day were huge. We can sometimes forget how much we have spent, and spend so much time trying to impress and make our loved ones happy with extravagant gifts. I want to talk about how I spend, and how I'm encouraged to buy things in my final major project.
